Quality time with our children

It seems like as the years go by our lives become more chaotic. We run around doing so much that we loose ourselves and loose track of time. Fast forward and our kids are adults and we ask ourselves where did the time go ?

Video

I watched this video and it really go to me. It shows you the simple most important thing that our children need and want is quality time with us. Wether it be sitting together having lunch, spending some family time playing games or simple sitting around and talking to one another. Lets cherish the time we have with our children because in a blink of an eye they will be busy with their own lives and we will be the ones asking them to slow down and come eat lunch with us.

Why bulky winter coats and car seats don’t mix

We are all guilty of overdressing our kids when we feel that the weather has cooled down, especially in Kuwait because we are not used to cold winters. Research has shown that we should never but our children in a car seat wearing their jackets as it can be very dangerous and unsafe for our children.

Watch the video below and please share it with all the parents you know.

Car seat alert: A winter coat could endanger your child

The Book with No Pictures

A book that got my attention lately and I can’t wait to get my hands on. It has had some positive and negative reviews but I can’t wait to read it and see what my kids think about it. Of course it all depends on how good of a storyteller Iam.

What do you think?

You can purchase the book from Amazon.

The KFK Foundation: How You Can Help

Keeping our youth strong is absolutely vital to help them be prepared for the future and to be successful members of society, which is why the Kuwait for Kids Foundation was established. The KFK Foundation believes that it’s crucial that children must be stimulated in order to build a strong future for the next generations. The foundation strives to promote the expertise and skills of the youth of Kuwait, providing them with the tools and opportunities they need to become the building blocks that will create a brighter future for the world.

At the KFK Foundation, it’s our goal to enrich the lives of children by providing them with encouragement to help them shine in their homes, at school and in society, regardless of any unfortunate circumstances that may fall upon them. We believe in today’s youth and know that enriching their lives can help them to conquer any obstacles that may be between them and a bright future.

It’s our goal to recognize underprivileged children and give them the support they need to become the best they can be. Our organization is focused on promoting the excellence of each child we work with and to provide the society of Kuwait with the strength they need to ensure there is equality among all of the economic sectors. To promote the success of Kuwaiti society as a whole, we believe it’s important to help give the children of economically disadvantaged families the resilience and determination they need to be self-reliant, building a more secure society overall.

By helping these bright minds overcome the odds set against them and nurturing and strengthening them to achieve, we will create a brighter future for them all. In order to provide these children with the tools they need to become successful, we need your support. To financially contribute go to www.kuwaitforkids.org our crowd funding website and help a deserving child, for volunteering kindly email us your details to volunteer@kuwaitforkids.org and for a child nomination you can fill out our form and send it to our address or complete our easy online application. Your contributions help us to create a stronger Kuwaiti society, enriching the lives of each underprivileged child we work with, aiding them in creating a better future for all.

Time to get organized!

With the school year coming to an end I decided to take advantage of the holiday (since there are no travel plans yet) and get organized around the house. Our study area is overflowing with school papers, art work, you name it! and the playroom is a mess and needs a makeover. I came across some great ideas and thought about sharing them. You might get inspired to do some summer organizing as well ;)

It is always better to have all you important papers, birth certificates, and passports in one place. Always try to have the expiry date of certain documents in an easy place to few them so you don’t find out that your passport has expired on the way to the airport. Yes, unfortunatly it has happened a few times!

Kids will be coming home with numerous papers and folders and most of it will be art work they did at school. If you don’t have the heart to throw them away like me then here are a few fun ideas.

Display them on your walls around the house. You can find these wall hangers available at Ikea in the kitchen section.

Place them in photo albums with the year and grade they were in.

One of my favorites is turning them into place mats! How adorable is this?

We love these storage boxes. They make organizing so easy and it keeps all your drawers and your kids drawers neat and tidy. The boxes are available at Ikea.

When it comes to organizing the kids playroom I have found that Pottery Barn and Ikea have the best options. Adorable kid tables and chairs, and modern storage solutions.

Do you have any organizational tips you would like to share with other mommies ? Please drop us an email and we would gladly share your tip ;)

Let’s raise kids to be entrepreneurs

I’m a huge fan of TED Talks. There are so many amazing stories, inspirational talents and talks that can change the way you see and do things. One of my favorite TED Talks is By Cameron Herold. called  Let’s raise kids to be entrepreneurs. He poses the question: “Why not train our kids to be entrepreneurs instead of employees?” Why do we hire tutors to address our children’s shortcomings, instead of hiring ones who bolster their talents? In our society have we made it so easy for our children; failed to let them learn the hard lessons and in no means  spurred their creativity ?

An entrepreneur since childhood, Cameron Herold wants parents and teachers to recognize — and foster — entrepreneurial talent in kids.

Tips for traveling with kids this summer

Summer break is just around the corner and travel plans are set. We all know how demanding and hectic traveling with kids can be so here are a few tips on how to make it an easy, hassle free vacation.

  • When booking your tickets try to make sure that the route you are traveling on has no layovers or transits and if they do make sure the waiting period is not that long.
  • Book your seats in advanced so that you can guarantee seats at the front and together. You don’t want to be stuck at the back of the plane with everyone seated in a different row.
  • Always try to book morning flights or flights in the evening 7/8pm so that your kids have already had a good nights sleep or can sleep on the plane. The worst thing you can do is wake up kids at 2am to be at the airport for a 4am flight (watch out for toddler tantrums!)
  • Make sure you have lots of entertainment on the flight. Charge their ipads, dowload their favorite cartoon or movie, get activity books and crayons to keep them busy during the flight.
  • Pack some of their favorite snacks in ziplock bags because we all know how airplane food can be.
  • When packing your children’s suitcase put outfits in resealable plastic bags and use stickers or markers to label each day. This makes it so much easier for older kids to dress themselves.
  • Plan ahead of time the different locations and activities you want to do on the trip and make sure they are age appropriate. This makes it so much easier and saves a lot of time when you are there.

What is your best travel tip with children?
